Man, it still feels so weird being back in NJ. -___- I'm still getting used it, being back in the apartment, not rushing around trying to get a bald cap on, not seeing my wonderful friends... Oy.

Let finish this con report before I start to forget stuff and all the days begin to blend together! XD (Photos are beautiful things for remembering great times.) I started writing this report on Monday but didn't/couldn't finish it for one reason or another. It's pretty long and can definitely be skimmed over, but even if for my own sake, I want to record everything that happened. ^_^

THURSDAY
Amanda (deedeearrmax) and I left for Baltimore on Thursday. We left an hour later than planned (we both woke up a little late, and I was doing last minute packing. BTW, I feel like I brought my entire life to the con; it felt like waay too much stuff.) Before we got on our way, she and I went shopping for snacks and things. The trip itself went very smoothly, with very little traffic and perfect weather, and we arrived at our hotel in Linthicum Heights at about 4 PM. Chilled for a little bit in our room and headed off for Baltimore.

The Light Rail was filled with otaku who fulfilled just about every otaku stereotype in the book. It was pretty funny. Amanda and I kept seeing otaku-looking people at the rest stops and stuff on our way to Baltimore, and we were like, "Oh, we'll probably see him/her at the con!" XD

We got into the city and met up with Kat (unyuu), Nikki (technoranma), Liz (_anatra_), Alex (glayish), Kevin (soulesschyld), Renae, and Sam (LJ names?) in their room at the Hyatt. It was like DB Cosplay Nirvana. *_* And totally, EFFING crazy awesome to see technoranma and glayish again after so long (since AnimeNEXT last year!) And meeting Liz, Kevin, Renae, and Sam was really, really great. And, of course, it's always a total blast to hang with unyuu.

technoranma gave me the two different gi's she made for Kuririn/Luffy costumes. <3333 And glayish gave me Piccolo x Tenshinhan doujinshi, which probably ranks as some of the most disturbing stuff I've ever read. XD ...But Tenshinhan's naked ass is in it, and thus makes me happy. Also received a cute Tenshinhan figure-ish thing (it's like a Tenshinhan version of Bubba Trunks, if anyone other than Meri (meritot) gets that reference. o_O)

Soon after we all trekked off to the Gallery/mall thing to eat dinner. Had a nice wrap to eat and bonded with everyone. Everyone was so tired from their respective trips, but we all had a pretty fun time, I think.

After dinner, we walked to the Con Center to get our badges. Long line was long, but it went pretty quick. When I got up to the Pre-Reg booth, the woman there told me I had to go over to the Special Needs booths because I was a Panelist and she couldn't check me in. Fail. Anyway, that took a freaking hour to get done, because the line was slow as hell and there were only two Special Needs booths (as opposed to the ten/fifteen or so regular Pre-Reg booths). But we all got our badges, so that was all good. Amanda and I took in Renae and Sam for the night, because their room at the Hyatt already had like fifty-million people in it. XD

FRIDAY
Bald cap goodness! Put make-up on at the Hyatt/DB Cosplay Central/Nirvana. Got mistaken for Aang from Avatar seven or more times throughout the day. >< I'd prepared myself for that, since the colors Kuririn wears are pretty much the same as Aang's (though the orange and yellow are reversed.) Still, it was painful. Later on, technoranma and I looked great in our matching red-orange gi's. DB mini photoshoot was fun and extremely colorful. Also met Andrea (ichigokitty), who's as beautiful in real life as she is in her photos.

Dealers Room was pretty fun, especially with all of us DB cosplayers. Bought some gifts for a few people and had gifts bought for me (thanks so much guys!) Met Maggie (number18) in the Dealer's Room and took first few of many epic 18/Kuririn photos. :D

Went back to the Hyatt and changed. Ripped off some skin around boobular area while taking off bindings (sports tape, will not use again). My own damn fault for not realizing that I was sweating more and therefore had to be more careful about removing the bindings. *sigh* I've got a couple of nice blisters on my chest... which I'm sure is TMI for you all. ^^;; Hair was matted down and wet with water and gel underneath the bald cap, so unyuu lent me her Nami wig for the JAM Project concert. (Thanks, dear! Hope it didn't, uh, smell afterwards! ^_^;;)

HOLY CRAP JAM PROJECT. One of the best moments in my life when Kageyama sang "Cha-La Head Cha-La." Freaking amazing. (Also nearly died when Kitadani sang "We Are," which was incredible performed live.) Danced and sang along with both songs and cried a little. Holy crap again.

SATURDAY
Was a little slow getting ready for the day. Bald cap came out better, though. It was DBZ Day, so I cosplayed Cell Saga Kuririn. :D Did not get mistaken for Aang, or did I? All short bald cosplayers are automatically called Aang now.

Everyone looked AMAZING. I can't describe how awesome it was to see everyone in DBZ costumes after several months of talking about them at west_city. Freaking epic. So many people stopped glayish, technoranma, and _anatra_ in Raditz, Goku, and Vegeta (Saiya-jin saga versions). It was like walking around with movie stars. *_* I was also really surprised at how well Kuririn was received at the con. DBZ fans love the Bald-Man. o_O (Mr. Yahara from the Sasuga Bookstore booth rubbed my head. XD It was really cute.)

We had a professional DBZ photoshoot done by Lionel at 1 PM (ichigokitty hooked us up! Thank you!). I'd never done one before, and the experience was indescribable. I can't wait to see the results!!!

Giantic DBZ cosplay gathering at 5 PM was GREAT FUN. Andrew (andrewdeluxe) popped over to take a few photos, presumably for meritot and vegettoex, who couldn't make it. T_T It was wonderful seeing Andrew again (at his first con, no less). :D

The ginormous group of DB series cosplayers soon moved from the fountains to the area sort of behind the escalators, where there was more room. Crazy antics ensued, such as this fantastic video of number18 and myself being goofy, as well as _anatra_ and glayish doing sexy things to Izeekial (Bryan, our Nappa) and performing their "Final Flash". XD Best time cosplaying ever! Also had bald cap leak because of all the water we used to slick back my hair. T_T It was pretty funny. And kind of gross.

The DBZ panel was moved to Sunday afternoon (the last panel of the day!) This was such a relief for all of us, since the Masquerade was Saturday night/at the same time the panel would have been. technoranma, glayish, _anatra_, and Izeekial performed a kickass skit, which won Best Journeyman. <3 The Masq was pretty interesting; some of the skits were kind of random and boring, but most of them were entertaining and funny. One little girl in the Youth Division went up all by herself and sang Utada Hikaru's "Hikari" and looked absolutely scared out of her mind and could barely sing above a whisper. The ENTIRE audience rose to the occasion and started clapping along to the music and waving their cell phones in the air, giving her encouragement. It was the sweetest, most touching thing that could have happened at that moment, and it made me cry very hard. Otaku, you done good.

Ducked out of the Masq early to meet Amanda's friend Dan. While they were catching up, I got to meet fadedfeathers for a brief moment. Digimon cosplay FTW! Her Yamato was really cute! (I want to do Digimon cosplay someday! :D)

SUNDAY
Amanda and I checked out of our hotel room, packed everything in my car, and drove to the Convention Center. The morning was slightly hectic, but comfy One Piece/Dragon Ball crossover cosplay more than made up for it. Everyone probably thought I was a Goku who was too lazy to spike a wig, but I felt less out of place when I met up with unyuu, who was dressed as Nami in Goku's gi. ^^ We took a couple of adorable photos (which will be posted soon). vegetas (Aly) soon joined us as Goku in Luffy's vest/pants and we took a few more photos. Said quick hello to vegettoex, meritot, and andrewdeluxe before heading off to Panel Ops with Kat and Nikki. Did final check of PowerPoint presentation and ran off to the Dealer's Room for last minute shopping. Ironically, most of my purchases were from Sunday... including an adorable Chaozu soft vinyl figurine!! It's really similar to the bigger Goku and Kuririn ones I've seen around. I've yet to come across the Chaozu one I really want, but this one's OK. It's really, really cute. X3

Hung out with emudii and grayhour for a bit after going to the Dealer's Room. They both looked cute as Trunks and Bra! It was great meeting them and talking about DB (great prep from the panel!) ^^

The OP/DB crossover group finally met up with our fourth and final member outside of the Panel room. ichigokitty looked very pretty in her Luffy-Bulma costume. I don't know how she wore those über short-shorts; she's brave! I'm sure she got the boys all hot and bothered with that costume. XD

The DB Panel itself was interesting... I seriously underestimated the frightening powers of DB fanboys. We ran out of time because we spent too much time talking about Fasha/Celipa/Raja/Dooku and her alleged maternal connection to Goku. I was not a happy camper right after the panel, but I had way high expectations going into the panel. It really wasn't bad for our first panel, and just being up there with Kat and Niki and having our friends in the audience was awesome. Thanks so much for staying at Otakon to see us!

After the panel, wound down with deedeearrmax, technoranma, glayish, _anatra_, and Shannon. Got food at Edo Sushi. The place was hopping and Amanda's food didn't even come out. >< Definitely did not want to say good-bye at all. Getting dinner and talking about next year's cosplay was the best way to end the weekend, though. I really really miss everyone. A lot.

Amanda and I finally had to say good-bye/good night and start our drive back to New Jersey. The ride took about five/five and a half hours instead of the usual three, due to a very horrible accident on the Bay Bridge which forced people onto 95. We got home at 2 AM. o_O

FINAL THOUGHTS
Seriously the best con I've ever been to. Amazing friends, amazing cosplay... I can't wait to see what next year brings, when the West City groups busts out with some more DB cosplay. :D

The only thing I hated about Otakon was missing chibi_plum and caitirin and elaby. The weekend really flew by, and with Amanda and I staying about 40 minutes away from the center of all the action and having to catch the Light Rail every night, it was difficult to stay in Baltimore very late. T_T Argh!

① Tenshinhan (Dragon Ball) ||| For about ten years now, he's been my absolute favorite character of all time. He's basically set the precedent for just about every male character I've fallen for since... with his seriousness, his rare smile, stubbornness, and overall good and noble nature. He can be a bit of a bad-ass as well, which doesn't hurt any. :3
② Tatsunosuke Ichimura (Peacemaker) ||| Oh Dagon Boy... I actually wasn't sure how I felt about him at first, but I really have fallen for him. He's so incorrigible, and he tries so dang hard to keep a low profile *laughs* but with a little brother like Tetsu, it's nigh impossible. I also love how unintentionally goofy he is.. He's just so adorkable. XD
③ Toshikazu Nobu (Memoirs of A Geisha) ||| This man doesn't get enough screen time in the book or movie! Normally I think I'd like The Chairman type of guy... but Nobu's just so awesome and sympathetic. ...I like his actor in the movie version.
④ Chaozu (Dragon Ball) ||| Ah, yes... the favorite that makes people look at me like I've got 20 heads. *^^* Heh. Chaozu's adorable, there's no denying... There's a certain thing about him that I can relate to, strange as that may sound (adoration of Tenshinhan, maybe? Nah, it's something else...)
⑤ Orihime Inoue (Bleach) ||| Before I started reading Bleach, I thought Orihime was just one of those busty female characters that served only as fanservice (sort of like... no personality, just eye-candy). In reality, she's such a sweetheart, a really amazing, strong, and gentle person. I really love her. ^^

It was really difficult to choose just five. >< Honorable mention: Luffy (One Piece), Tetsu (Peacemaker), Rin (Fruits Basket), Akito (Fruits Basket), Pazu (Laputa), Sakamoto (Peacemaker), Kino (Kino no Tabi), Haruhi (Ouran), and Lyra (His Dark Materials). ...That's a lot. O_O

Alrighty, I've got today and the next two days off, so it's time for some hard-core sewing! Kimono are very difficult to sew, and I keep thinking I'm making mistakes... However, except for the fact that I didn't buy enough fabric for the sleeves (...), I think it's going well. -___- I'm probably going to tackle the pants today or tomorrow, just to get away from the kimono of death.

Made a couple of edits to my overly-ambitious cosplay master list.

...It's a pretty nice day; I should lay outside and get a tan. ^^; Eventually, I'll have to get some make-up and start learning... how to use it to look more boy-ish. XD

Other stuff:
- make PMK screencaps from the Premium DVD (grendelity and fadedfeathers should know what I'm talking about. ^_~)
- Darkrai event on Saturday.
- Otakon panel (we'll get confirmation of that next week, right, unyuu?)
- bald cap testing (begins after costume is done.) *_*
- finish coloring Tatsu art.

Ahahaha~~ I just finished watching Sense and Sensibility! I'm overjoyed by the fact that Ang Lee directed it, and amused that so many Harry Potter actors were in it (Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Imelda Staunton, Robert Hardy, Elizabeth Spriggs, and Gemma Jones; Patrick Doyle even composed the score). I've found a new favorite character in Colonel Brandon... which of course has nothing to do with the fact that Alan Rickman played him. XP Brandon is precisely the type of character I fall in love with: honorable, damn serious (but unintentionally funny), slightly awkward in social situations, steadfast, a bit shy and aloof, stubborn..... and with that rare smile so that when he does, the skies open up and the choir starts to sing.... *swoon*

I regret not reading Pride and Prejudice when it was assigned in Lit class in high school. (I had an excuse. XP) But I think I'll enjoy reading Sense when I finally get my hands on a copy. The movie gave me a glimpse into Brandon's character, and I'm hoping there's more about him in the original material. X3 In addition, I felt the movie was lacking in certain essential details and story elements, like it was just skimming the world which Austen had created, and I'm hoping the novel will satisfy.

Alan Rickman is pure love, though. (Glasses!Alan Rickman is the sexiest Alan Rickman ever.) I really want to download the Sweeny Todd soundtrack and listen to him sing. XD

(Obviously, you don't have to wait for me if you feel pressed for time, but you know that... ^^ I'm just a nut.)

Looks like Best Buy's got DBZ Season 4 for $19.99...

Yeah. I really don't want to get it.... but if I were to buy it, 20 bucks isn't too bad. I'm curious, despite what I've heard about it. It ~~sounds like~~ is an utterly disappointing mess... but... I've never seen the Japanese episodes of these arcs. ><;; (I curse the very existence of the Garlic Jr. arc... Ugh.)

Should I buy it? Or save my money for something that doesn't suck ass, like the FLCL box set? Or manga. I love manga.

Dragon Ball Con 2008 (AKA Otakon 2008)

'HO SNAPS YOU GUYS!!! A bunch of us are planning a good-sized Dragon Ball cosplay group for this year's Otakon. :DDD I might have to put my Tetsu cosplay on the back-burner, in favor of this...which I hate to do... but we shall see. This is my first cosplay group ever! I can't even express how excited I am, how we all are, for this year. (Plus, Hironobu Kageyama??? For seriously.)

My costumes are as follows:
01. KURIRIN from early DB.
02. PAN in her orange gi.

As I just decided, like, tonight, that I want to cosplay Pan, I'd like your feedback about it. I have no clue as to who you all are cosplaying, in terms of characters from "Z", so I'm not sure where I'll fit in with everyone. I'm sure it doesn't matter, since we can have characters spanning the entires series... but I'm just curious. ^^ I don't want to overwhelm myself.
So, are you guys doing a specific saga or group? My Pan might be a little random. XD (glayish and technoranma, I more-or-less know what your plans are for DBZ cosplay, but I don't really want to spoil them here.)

To technoranma: Since you're doing Goku's blue gi from the beginning of the series, do you also want to have those boxes of milk bottles to carry around? I'd love to do the turtle shells as well, but that would be a difficult undertaking, yeah?

That's about it, I think.... Oh, and I don't know cobheran, but I'm dying to know who he's cosplaying! ><

[EDIT] Since Kuririn is a definite, I'll focus on getting his outfits done. And I'll adjust/add to my Kuririn costume list according to what arc you all are doing for later-series stuff.

I've decided to make another friends cut. The F-list has grown a bit too large for me to handle; and in some cases, I feel I've become too distant with some of you to maintain a good relationship. This cut, in particular, is an awful one; I cut a lot of people whom I had gotten to know through the Fruits Basket fandom. Since the manga ended in Japan, I feel we've drifted apart in other ways.

I've had to cut a few of you who are also friends "in real life", which doesn't seem to make sense, but I just feel there are other and better ways to keep in touch with you. It's probably a little boring for you to read all my random fandom-related stuff, anyway. ^^;;

Those of you with fanfic- and non-community icon- journals: I've bookmarked said journals and will continue to visit them on a regular basis. I'd like to give a little more focus to your personal journals. ^^ (And if you want me to beta any fics, I'll be more than happy to do so!)

Friends cuts really suck... I hope you know that I really enjoyed being friends with you; please take care!

I did the Interests Collage thingy-thing. It's so lolerrific... I had to change a few of the photos, though. (Some of them remain incredibly random.) Apparently, if they can't find images that correspond to your interests, they just use ones of nude females. WTF. Do not want.

About the Dragon Ball Z image of Chaozu and Yamcha: I laughed. Quite hysterically and using my stupid-laugh. And I'm ashamed to say it made me think slightly dirty thoughts. Am I being punished for having watched the DBZ anime in sporadic chunks? XD Can anyone out there provide for me an explanation of what's going on?

The endless, pointless battles are finally getting on my nerves. Yes, it's cool having Zaraki back in action. Yes, I love seeing Unohana and Hanatarou again. I even thought Mayuri was pretty spiffy-looking (still creepy as hell, but I like his Pharoh-ness.)

Ended up going to the fabric store on Saturday. Man, I feel totally intimidated but also very excited. ^^ I bought a few essentials (suggested by Sewing for Dummies,) like a pair of dressmaker's scissors, measuring tape, a seam ripper, glass head pins, and a wrist pincushion. I decided to wait until I've taken a closer look at my pattern and sewing machine before I buy fabric, thread, needles, etc. There are so many different types of fabric out there! o_O It's scary! XDD It's a good thing I'll need only cotton blends for my costume... -__-

I found: three very, very, very, very, very nice Tenshinhan doujin on eBay for reasonable prices, considering their rarity and the fact that I'd probably have to pay more at a Japan Auction site.

What's a girl to do? *feigns innocence* ^______________^

New photos concerning the upcoming live-action DB movie and shizz. (I got the link from the DB movie club at deviantART.)

...I've gotta say, I'm a bit more interested now that there are photos of Goku (Justin Chatwin) in an orange gi. XD I still don't care for the high school angle they're taking with the story. ...Actually, have they dropped that angle? *hopeful* Correct me if any of my facts are wrong; I have not been following the movie or been reading the many and varied opinions of other DB fans. When I first found out that they were going to make a live-action movie for Dragon Ball, I was appalled. ...But I've accepted it. What will be, will be. I'll go see it when it comes out, and I might enjoy it. ^^

I'm making my first Fan Soundtrack, for Fruits Basket pairings~ Choosing songs that fit is challenging, but I think I've picked out pretty good ones for Shigure/Akito, Kyo/Tohru, and Yuki/Machi. (Most excited about the Shigure/Akito one! :D) I'm going to try and cover all of the established couples in the fandom (I absolutely refuse to do Hana/Kazuma,) and I know Hatori/Mayu will be the hardest for me, since I don't know enough about their relationship to pick a good song. For Ayame/Mine, I chose Madonna's "Dress You Up in My Love" sort of as a gag, but I also kind of think it fits them. XD

I cracked open Sewing for Dummies last night and read the first couple of chapters. Some of my 7th grade Home Ec experience with a sewing machine is coming back. XD I'm relieved that at least some of the jargon is familiar. Hopefully, I'll get to the fabric store this week and buy some crap. (After procrastinating for 3 months...)

Back to school is fun. My Japanese class is in the basement of one of the halls: The Grad School of Education Building on College Ave, if anyone wants to know exactly where and knows about Rutgers. ^^; The tables are arranged in an annoying horseshoe shape.

Intro to the Study of Language is a lecture (I shouldn't have been surprised but was.) Yay excitement!

Math tomorrow. Boo numbers. And they're always the hardest to learn in another language. It hurt my brain to remember how to say "thirty-five," or any other number, in German (fünfunddreißig!!!), and it's not a whole lot better in Japanese (though the kanji make perfect sense to me; I just can't wrap my head around how to say them when they're all mashed together.)
